Tulsi Marriage – Law of Marriage – Mantra – Story

(तुलसी विवाह- शादी की विधि -मंत्र -कथा)



● Tulsi marriage has special significance in Hinduism. On the day of Devuthani Ekadashi or Devuthan Ekadashi, Tulsi ji is married to Shaligram. Shaligram is a stone incarnation of Vishnu. This marriage is done with great pomp and show. Tulsi ji is flown with red chunri and is kept as a grooming item like a bride. There, Shaligram brings a procession with a band-instrument. It is believed that the houses which do not have daughters, they can get the pleasure of girl donation through Tulsi marriage.



● When is Tulsi marriage-

• Tulsi marriage is done every year on the day of Devuthani Ekadashi. On the day of Devuthani or Devotthan Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu wakes up after four months of sleep. On the day of Devshayani Ekadashi of Ashada Shukla Paksha, Lord Vishnu sleeps for four months and wakes up on the day of Devouthani Ekadashi of Kartik month. That is why only after Tulsi marriage, auspicious works, especially weddings, begin in the homes.



● Auspicious time for marriage–

• Tulsi marriage is done on Devothan Ekadashi, but in many places, this marriage is also done on Dwadashi Tithi.

• On November 15, 2021, from 2:29 pm

• On December 13, 2021 at 2:40 pm



● Complete method of marriage–

• The whole family and all the guests attending the wedding should be washed and dressed in nice clothes.
• Keep the fast before this ritual giving ceremony.
• During auspicious time, keep the basil tree on the patio in the courtyard. If you wish, Tulsi marriage can also be done on the terrace or temple place.
• Make a sugar cane in the pot of basil pot and decorate the pavilion with red chunri on it.
• Place the Shaligram stone in the pot.
• Make turmeric of basil and shaligram. For this, turmeric in milk and apply it.
• Apply turmeric paste on sugarcane pavilion as well.
• Now offer fruits such as plum, amla, apple, etc., while worshiping this season.
• Now put a lot of camphor in the plate of worship and burn it. Perform the Aarti of Tulsi and Shaligram with it.
• After performing the aarti, revolve Tulsi 11 times and distribute the prasad.
• After Tulsi marriage, awaken Lord Vishnu with the following mantra.

● Importance of marriage–

• Marriage of Tulsi is considered very auspicious. It is believed that with Tulsi marriage, there is a positive atmosphere in the house. Also, devotees get the pleasure of the biggest donation i.e. Kanyadaan. According to mythological beliefs, the house which does not have a daughter should marry Tulsi. In many places this Ekadashi is also celebrated as Chhoti Diwali. On this day, after lifting the Gods, auspicious works begin in the houses. Works like halted puja, shaadi, mundan and havan are started.

● Story-

• Lord Shiva and Parvati had a third son. The name of this son was Jalandhar, who was of Asura instinct. He considered himself above all the gods. Jalandhar was married to Vrinda, the supreme devotee of Vishnu. Jalandhar repeatedly harassed the gods with his powers, but due to his devotion to the deity Vrinda failed to kill Jalandhar. Once all the gods went to Lord Vishnu about this problem and asked for a solution.


• Describing the solution, Vishnu planned to end the veneration of Vrinda. Vishnu took the form of Jalandhar and dissolved the veracity of Vrinda. After this, Tridev succeeded in killing Jalandhar.

• Jan Vrinda cursed Vishnu Di for this trick. At this, all the gods requested to withdraw the curse, which Vrinda accepted and withdrew his curse. But Lord Vishnu made a stone form of himself for the atonement. This stone is called Shaligram.

• Vrinda became sati with her husband and a plant of Tulsi came out of her ashes. Not only this, Lord Vishnu continued his praxeet and gave Tulsi the highest position and said, I will not eat without Tulsi.

• After this, all the gods believed Vrinda to be Sati and got her married to Shaligram. The day Tulsi was married, the day was Devuthani Ekadashi. That is why Tulsi marriage started every year on the day of Devuthani.
